How flu masks work
The theory
The filter removes dangerous airborne particles by snagging them in the fabric as you breath in. As you breathe out, the moisture in your breath escapes through the valve, thus keeping it drier than normal un-valved masks.
The practice
- Remove the mask from its sealed bag
- Open the mask out with your fingers
- Fit the mask over your nose and mouth
- Secure the elastic behind your ears and adjust to fit
- Finally, pinch the nose piece snuggly over your nose.
Never share masks between people
Don't ever share your mask with someone else. They're not designed for it, and neither ar you.
Never use a surgical mask
Our masks help reduce your exposure to airborne particles. Surgical facemasks prevent particles being expelled by the wearer into the environment. So in theory, they work the opposite way. Surgical facemasks are not designed to seal tightly to the face and therefore air leakage around the edges is likely.
